Postal Unions Announce Agitational Programs Over Unresolved Demands

New Delhi, 13 March 2025

The Postal Joint Council of Action (PJCA), comprising major postal employee federations including the Federation of National Postal Organisations (FNPO), National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE), All India Grameena Dak Sevak Union (AIGDSU), and National Union of Grameen Dak Sevak (NUGDS), has announced a series of agitational programs in protest against the Department of Posts' response to their demands.

Background of the Protest

The unions have expressed their dissatisfaction with the records of discussion issued following the meeting held on 28th February 2025 with postal authorities. According to PJCA, the minutes of the meeting have not been officially issued, and the records provided reflect only partial discussions, failing to include all 13 charter demands raised during the meeting. The unions argue that only 5 to 6 demands have been acknowledged, with inaccurate representations of the discussions and assurances given by the authorities.

As a result, the postal unions have decided to move forward with their agitational programs, culminating in an indefinite strike unless their demands are addressed.

Revised Agitational Programs

The following modified protest actions have been announced:

  1. Postcard/ILC Campaign – From 20th March to 21st March 2025, postal employees will send mass postcards and inland letters highlighting their demands.
  2. Email Campaign – On 27th March 2025, postal staff will engage in an email campaign to press for their demands.
  3. Indefinite Strike – Beginning 6th May 2025, an indefinite strike will commence if no resolution is reached.

Call for Negotiations

While pushing forward with these protest actions, the postal unions have reiterated their willingness for negotiations. They have urged the Department of Posts to arrange a fresh meeting with the Postal Services Board (PSB) and the Hon’ble Minister of Communications (MOC) to find an amicable resolution. The unions stress that addressing their demands is crucial not only for the welfare of postal employees but also for ensuring the smooth functioning of postal services for the citizens of India.

Conclusion

The stalemate between the Department of Posts and postal unions is escalating, with an indefinite strike looming if concerns remain unresolved. The situation calls for immediate dialogue and intervention from authorities to prevent disruption in postal services across the country. As postal employees continue their struggle, all eyes will be on how the government responds in the coming week
