Bengaluru, January 15, 2025: In line with "The Post Office Rules, 2024" and "The Post Office Regulations, 2024," Karnataka Circle has announced a revision of business hours for post offices across the state. The new guidelines, issued under Memo No. TECH/2-21/PO ACT 2023, aim to enhance operational efficiency and customer convenience by standardizing working hours while allowing flexibility for local requirements.
Key Highlights of the Revised Business Hours:
Standard Business Hours:
- Counter services, including booking, posting of items, and premium collections, will operate for six hours on normal weekdays, including Saturdays (excluding holidays).
- Services such as money remittance (Electronic Money Orders, Indian Postal Orders) and savings bank transactions will also adhere to the six-hour duration.
Branch Post Offices:
- Branch post offices will remain open for a maximum of five hours daily.
- Divisional heads are authorized to set specific working hours for branch post offices based on local convenience, arrival and departure schedules, and operational requirements.
Flexible and Extended Hours:
- Divisions may extend business hours on Sundays and holidays or specify additional services to address public demand or special circumstances.
- During periods of high demand, limits may be set on the number of items accepted for booking to ensure equitable service availability.
Evening Post Offices:
- Regions are encouraged to explore the possibility of setting up evening post offices to cater to the needs of younger demographics and professionals unable to visit during regular hours.
Implementation and Local Adaptation:
The revised rules empower Divisional Heads and Regional Offices to tailor working hours and services to local needs while adhering to the overarching framework. This flexibility is designed to enhance accessibility and ensure customer satisfaction in both urban and rural areas.
Assistant Director (Technical), T. Rama Sudhakara Rao, emphasized the importance of these changes, stating, “The revised business hours are part of a broader effort to modernize postal services and make them more customer-centric while maintaining operational efficiency.”

All divisional and regional offices have been instructed to implement the revised business hours promptly and ensure clear communication to the public. Feedback and suggestions are encouraged to optimize service delivery further.
