The Ministry of Communications, Department of Posts, has marked 2024 as a year of significant achievements, milestones, and transformative advancements. Under the leadership of Shri Jyotiraditya M. The Post Office Act, 2023: A New Legislative Era

The Post Office Act, 2023, which came into force on June 18, 2024, replaced the century-old Indian Post Office Act of 1898. This citizen-centric legislation simplifies processes, reduces decision-making layers, introduces national addressing standards, and promotes a competitive environment in the postal sector.

  • National Addressing Standards: Provisions for uniform addressing systems.

  • Operational Freedom: Streamlined decision-making for faster services.

  • Competition: Liberal policies encourage participation from private players.

Advancing Mail and Parcel Delivery

  • Parcel Monitoring Application (PMA): Real-time tracking technology has significantly boosted accountable mail deliveries from 4.33 lakh articles in 2019 to 5.35 crore articles in 2024.

  • e-Clearance of Letter Boxes: 53,854 letter boxes now have electronic clearance systems.

  • RFID Technology: Installed at 42 major hubs for enhanced mail tracking.

  • Click N Book Service: Online booking for Speed Post and Registered Parcels across 1,729 PIN codes.

  • Nodal Delivery and Transshipment Centres: 233 centres established, handling 30% of parcels nationwide, with hubs in key cities like Guwahati, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Ludhiana.

Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations

  • Amazon MoU: Strengthened logistics operations to support e-commerce growth.

  • KYC Verifications: Door-to-door verification services conducted for over 4 lakh mutual fund investors.

  • PMEGP Physical Verification: Over 1.33 lakh units verified, ensuring proper use of government subsidies.

Empowering Defence Personnel and Rural India

  • Aadhaar Services: Extended to Defence personnel, including remote locations like Siachen.

  • Rural Development: Continued emphasis on financial inclusion and digital empowerment.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As India Post steps into 2025, the focus remains on enhancing logistics infrastructure, embracing digital innovations, and expanding outreach to the remotest corners of the country. With its blend of legacy and forward-thinking strategies, India Post is set to play a crucial role in building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The achievements of 2024 not only showcase India Post's commitment to excellence but also highlight its pivotal role in driving national development. The journey continues with renewed vision, innovation, and dedication towards a brighter future for all.
