Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh — January 17, 2025: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Post Master of the SBSO Branch at the Head Post Office, Suhag Nagar, Firozabad, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant.
The arrest followed the registration of a case by the CBI on January 16, 2025, based on allegations that the accused sought illegal gratification for facilitating the withdrawal of approximately ₹1.5 lakh from a joint savings bank account held by the complainant and his mother.
According to the complaint, the complainant’s father, who passed away on November 14, 2024, had a Public Provident Fund (PPF) account with the Firozabad Post Office. The funds from the PPF account were transferred to a joint account of the nominees—the complainant and his mother. The accused reportedly demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 to process the withdrawal of the remaining balance from the joint account.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe. The accused was subsequently arrested and will be presented before the Special Judge for Anti-Corruption, CBI cases, in Ghaziabad.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, according to the CBI.
This incident highlights the agency's commitment to combating corruption and ensuring accountability in public services.
