Simplified Process for SSA Account Conversion from Minor to Major Across Karnataka Postal Circle
In a recent circular issued by the Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle (Ref: FS-POSB002(07)/1/2022-FS-KAR), significant clarifications have been provided to streamline the conversion of Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) status from minor to major.
Key Highlights of the Circular:
- Customer ConveniencePost offices in Karnataka must no longer direct SSA depositors/guardians to the parent office (SOL) where the account was initially opened for account conversion. This avoids unnecessary travel and inconvenience, particularly when the parent office is located in a different district or state.
- Rule ReferenceAccording to Rule 128(1) of the POSB (CBS) Manual (Corrected up to 31.12.2021), a girl child must convert the SSA account to her name upon attaining 18 years by submitting fresh identification and address documents from the list of officially valid documents.
Process at Customer's Post Office (Including Branch Post Offices):
Accept the customer’s request for conversion.
Collect revised Account Opening Form (AOF) and KYC documents.
Verify documents and forward them to the parent SOL via registered service post.
Process at Parent SOL Post Office:
Complete the conversion of CIF and mode of operation on the same day of receiving verified documents.
Forward the SB-KYC form to CBS-CPC on the same day.
File revised AOF and KYC documents appropriately.
Notify the initiating Post Office via email about completion.
Objective of the Circular
The circular emphasizes leveraging the Core Banking System (CBS) to eliminate unnecessary hurdles in SSA account conversions. The streamlined process enhances customer experience and ensures timely account status updates.
Instructions for Implementation
All post offices in Karnataka, including branch offices, must strictly adhere to these guidelines to ensure uniform compliance and customer satisfaction.
This initiative underscores the Department of Post’s commitment to providing seamless and accessible financial services across the region.
