1. The Post Office Act, 2023
The landmark Post Office Act, 2023 came into force on June 18, 2024, replacing the Indian Post Office Act of 1898. This progressive legislation aims to modernize and streamline the postal sector in alignment with contemporary needs.
2. Enhancing Mail and Parcel Delivery
Parcel Monitoring Application (PMA): Real-time delivery tracking improved significantly, with monitored deliveries rising from 4.33 lakh articles in May 2019 to 5.35 crore articles in October 2024.
RFID Technology: RFID gates were installed at 42 major mail hubs, enabling seamless parcel tracking.
Nodal Delivery Centres: 233 centres now cover 1,600+ PIN codes, managing 30% of national parcel deliveries.
MoU with Amazon: Enhanced logistics efficiency through strategic collaboration with Amazon Seller Services.
3. Citizen Empowerment Through Services
Aadhaar Services: Aadhaar centres were extended to Defence personnel, including one at Siachen, with 110 centres operational.
Passport Services: MoU renewed with the Ministry of External Affairs to expand Post Office Passport Seva Kendras to 600 centres by 2028-29.
KYC Verifications: 4 lakh KYC verifications completed by October 2024.
PMEGP Verification: 1,33,000 PMEGP units are being verified by DoP.
4. Philately Initiatives
Commemorative Stamps: 25 new stamp issues celebrated historical events and cultural heritage.
Special Initiatives: Stamps were released to honor figures like Karpoori Thakur, Bhagwan Mahaveer, and events like Supreme Court's 75th Anniversary.
5. Workforce Development
Training Programs: 25 lakh course completions achieved on iGOT Karmayogi platform.
Rozgar Mela: 25,133 individuals engaged in employment initiatives.
6. Sustainability Efforts
Cleanliness Drives: 70,000 files weeded out, 46,000 sqft space freed, and Rs. 1.15 crore earned from scrap sales.
Tree Plantation: Over 36,000 trees planted as part of the #EkPedMaaKeNaam campaign.
7. Global Outreach
Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras: Over 1,000 centres facilitate exports for 18,000+ exporters.
India-Africa Postal Leaders Meet: Strengthened global postal cooperation.
International e-commerce services: Enabled tracked packet services to 41 countries.
8. India Post Payments Bank (IPPB)
Accounts Opened: 2.68 crore accounts in 2024, with 59% female ownership.
DBT Benefits: ₹34,950 crore disbursed across schemes like MGNREGA, PM-Kisan, and state-level initiatives.
Digital Life Certificates: 4.40 lakh certificates issued to pensioners.
