Key Highlights:

1. Conversion Process:

  • Eligibility: Beneficiaries who have turned 18 must convert their accounts from minor to major.
  • Documents Required:
    • Revised Account Opening Form with nominee details.
    • KYC documents (Aadhaar, PAN or Form 60, 2 passport-size photos).
    • Passbook (if issued).
  • Procedure:
    • Sub/Postmasters to inform beneficiaries via phone.
    • Beneficiaries must visit the post office with required documents.
    • If PAN is unavailable, Form 60 can be submitted; PAN must be provided within 30 days.
    • Issue a fresh SB passbook upon conversion if the old one isn't available.

2. PMMIS Account Modification:

  • Convert mode of operation from joint to single.
  • Issue a fresh MIS passbook to the beneficiary.
  • Ensure compliance with the SB Order guidelines.

3. Handling of Passbooks:

  • Passbooks for PM CARES accounts (previously managed by District Magistrates) should be retrieved and processed.
  • Undelivered passbooks to be handled as per standard procedures (e.g., destruction or transfer to SBCO).

4. Coordination with District Magistrates:

  • Divisional Heads to send letters to District Magistrates requesting the return of joint account passbooks.
  • Use a registered post for this communication.

5. Guidance to Beneficiaries:

  • Inform beneficiaries about:
    • Monthly interest credit to linked savings accounts.
    • Account maturity and closure process upon turning 23 years old.
    • Availability of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) accounts for seamless online transactions.

6. Timelines:

  • 14.11.2024: Start contacting beneficiaries.
  • 23.11.2024: Ensure account conversion is completed.
  • 25.11.2024: Submit compliance reports to the Chief Postmaster-General.
