Clarification on Considering Married Daughters for Appointment on Compassionate Grounds.
The Department of Posts has issued an Office Memorandum regarding the eligibility of married daughters for compassionate appointments. This clarification follows guidelines issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) and aims to provide a clear framework for assessing claims made by married daughters for such appointments.
Objective of the Compassionate Appointment Scheme
The scheme's primary purpose is to provide support to dependent family members of a deceased government servant or a government servant retired on medical grounds, ensuring relief from financial destitution.
Key Guidelines for Considering Married Daughters
Eligibility Criteria:
- Married daughters can be considered for compassionate appointments if they were wholly dependent on the deceased government servant at the time of death or on the medically retired government servant at the time of retirement.
- The married daughter must also support other dependent family members of the deceased or medically retired government servant.
Evaluation of Claims:
- It is the responsibility of the administrative Ministry/Department to verify the above conditions.
- Each Department/Organisation is to constitute a committee to evaluate applicants' claims based on their financial condition and other factors, ensuring the most deserving candidate is selected.
DoPT Guidelines:
- The consolidated instructions for the Compassionate Appointment Scheme were issued via DoPT’s OM No. 14014/1/22-Estt. (D) dated 02.08.2022.
Implementation in the Department of Posts:
- Based on the relative assessment of all applicants, including financial circumstances, married daughters meeting the eligibility criteria can be considered for compassionate appointment as per extant provisions.
