In a significant initiative to enhance the facilities and aesthetics of postal services across India, the Ministry of Communications has announced a pilot project aimed at upgrading 1,000 post offices currently operating from rented buildings. This decision follows a prior communication from the Estates Division dated 30.08.2024, which requested nominations for eligible post offices to be upgraded to Project Arrow standards.

Key Highlights:

  1. Selection Process: The nomination process involved various postal circles, leading to the selection of 1,000 post offices for upgradation during the financial year 2024-25. Detailed guidelines for executing the upgradation work have been provided to the Chief Postmasters General in all circles.

  2. Funding Allocation: Each selected post office will receive funding of ₹2 lakhs specifically allocated for this upgradation initiative. This funding falls under the Building Maintenance (Non-Scheme) budget, with a designated Head of Account (3201.05.053.01.01.27). An allotment sheet detailing the distribution of funds has also been provided.

  3. Implementation Timeline: The Chief Postmasters General are urged to adhere to the attached guidelines and commence the upgradation work immediately, with a target completion date set for 28.02.2024.

  4. Urgent Fund Release: The Budget Division has been requested to facilitate the immediate release of funds to the circles as per the attached allotment sheet, ensuring that the upgradation process proceeds without delay.

  5. Official Approval: This project has received the approval of the Secretary (Posts), underscoring its importance to the enhancement of postal services.
