National Postal Week 2024: Celebrating Financial Services and Social Inclusion

India Post is gearing up for National Postal Week 2024, scheduled to be celebrated from October 7 to October 11. This year's celebrations will place a significant emphasis on financial services, with a focus on empowering the girl child through financial literacy and promoting social inclusion. Two key events during the week will be Antyodaya Diwas on October 10 and Vittiya Sashaktikaran Diwas on October 11.

Activities and Action Plan

In line with the directives from the Ministry of Communications, the Department of Posts has outlined a detailed action plan for the week. These activities are designed to strengthen the department’s contribution to financial inclusion and help uplift marginalized communities. Below are the highlights of the scheduled events:

Antyodaya Diwas – October 10, 2024

This day will focus on extending the benefits of financial services to the most deprived sections of society. The key activities include:

  1. Seminars with Government Departments: Regions will organize seminars with State Government departments, particularly those involved in upliftment programs for the poor, marginalized, and backward communities. The discussions will focus on Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes.

  2. Aadhaar Seeding Camps: Each sub-division will hold at least one Aadhaar Seeding camp, aiming for a minimum of 1,000 seeding transactions per division. Additionally, Mobile Update CELC Transactions will also be facilitated, with a minimum target of 10 transactions per certified end-user.

  3. Opening of POSB/IPPB Accounts: Efforts will be made to open at least 10 accounts per M-ATM End User with Aadhaar seeding. The public will also be educated on the benefits of Aadhaar seeding, particularly its role in DBT schemes.

  4. Promotion of Jan Suraksha Schemes: Schemes such as PMJJBY (Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana), PMSBY (Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana), and APY (Atal Pension Yojana) will be actively promoted. Each post office is expected to achieve a target of at least 10 enrollments.

  5. Financial Literacy Camps: Alongside Aadhaar Seeding camps, Financial Literacy Camps will be organized, especially in rural, remote, urban slums, and underdeveloped areas. These camps will educate people on the importance of financial planning and the benefits of banking services.

  6. Promotion of IPPB GAG Policies: Institutional selling will be used to promote IPPB (India Post Payments Bank) GAG policies, particularly targeting factories, workshops, and business owners for their employees.

Vittiya Sashaktikaran Diwas – October 11, 2024

On Vittiya Sashaktikaran Diwas, the Anche Jana Samparka Abhiyan (Door-to-Door Campaign) will be conducted in every division. The goal is to enhance public participation in financial services. Key activities include:

  1. POSB Quiz: A quiz will be organized for customers, agents, GDS (Gramin Dak Sevaks), departmental staff, and officers to enhance awareness about financial services.

  2. Account Opening Targets: Every post office will aim to open 10 POSB accounts, 5 SSA (Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts), 5 PPF (Public Provident Fund) accounts, and 2 SCSS (Senior Citizens Savings Scheme) accounts.

  3. Declaration of Model Villages: Sub-divisions are expected to declare at least one of the following:

    • Sampoorna Sukanya Samriddhi Grama (Village)
    • Sampoorna Bachat (Savings) Village
    • Sampoorna Digital Village (with 100+ IPPB accounts)
    • Sampoorna Sukanya Samriddhi Schools
  4. Press Releases and Publicity: Publicity efforts will highlight India Post’s contributions to financial inclusion in remote areas. Press releases will be issued, and events will be widely publicized via print, electronic, and social media. High-quality photographs, videos, and newspaper clippings of the events will be collected and submitted.

To conclude the National Postal Week, divisions are requested to recognize and celebrate the top performers who have contributed significantly to the success of the activities.
