Application Process

  1. Online Applications: Interested candidates can apply online through the official portal https://indiapostgdsonline.gov.in from July 15, 2024, to August 5, 2024.

  2. Registration and Correction Window: Candidates must register with a valid mobile number and email address. A three-day window from August 6, 2024, to August 8, 2024, will be provided for editing or correcting applications.

  3. No Document Submission Required: Applicants are not required to submit documents with their initial application but must upload a recent photograph and signature.

Service Conditions

  • Nature of Employment: GDS positions are not regular government jobs and do not offer emoluments and allowances on par with central government employees.

  • Service Rules: Governed by the Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020, GDSs are engaged primarily in rural areas to provide postal services. They are required to work a minimum of four to five hours daily and cannot serve beyond the age of 65.

  • Accommodation: BPMs are responsible for arranging accommodation for their branch post offices at their own expense, meeting prescribed standards.

Job Profiles

  1. Branch Postmaster (BPM): Responsible for daily postal operations, including India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) transactions, marketing, and customer service.

  2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM): Supports BPM in postal operations, customer service, and may perform combined duties as required.

  3. Dak Sevak: Engaged in various postal office functions, including mail sorting, delivery, and RMS operations, as directed by Postmasters.
