In a significant development, the Joint Forum for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme (JFROPS) has decided to defer the program of serving a strike notice, followed by an indefinite strike, scheduled to commence from 1st May 2024. This decision follows a constructive meeting held today between the National Council/Joint Consultative Machinery (Staff Side) and the committee constituted by the Government of India to review the Pension System.
The meeting, convened at North Block, New Delhi, saw the participation of esteemed representatives from various unions, including Shri Shiva Gopal Mishra of the All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF), Shri Guman Singh of the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR), Shri Rupak Sakar from Confederation, Shri R. Srinivasan of the Indian National Defence Workers Federation (INDWF), and Shri Tapas Bose from the All India Accounts & Audit Association. Regrettably, Shri C. Srikumar from the All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF) couldn't attend due to unavoidable circumstances.
The meeting, characterized by a cordial atmosphere, witnessed fruitful discussions. The Finance Secretary of the Government of India provided insights into the delay in submitting the committee's report but assured relentless efforts to expedite the resolution of the issue. He urged the JCM (Staff Side) to repose faith in the committee's intentions, emphasizing the government's commitment as evidenced by the announcement made in the Parliament.
In light of the positive dialogue and assurances provided by the government, the JFROPS unanimously agreed to postpone the planned strike action. This decision reflects a commitment to engage constructively in the ongoing dialogue process aimed at addressing concerns related to the pension system.
The deferral of the strike notice underscores the willingness of both parties to explore avenues for resolving the issue through dialogue and negotiation. The JFROPS remains vigilant and committed to its objectives, prioritizing the interests of the workforce while striving for a fair and equitable resolution.
As developments unfold, stakeholders will be kept informed of further progress. The decision to defer the strike is a testament to the efficacy of dialogue and the potential for meaningful engagement to yield positive outcomes in addressing significant concerns affecting employees' welfare and livelihoods.
Comradely yours,
Shiva Gopal Mishra
