The Government of India, through the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has recently issued revised instructions regarding incentives for sportspersons in government service. These updated guidelines aim to provide clarity, broaden the scope of recognized events, and offer greater incentives to sportspersons excelling in various games and competitions.


Eligibility Criteria:

Under the revised guidelines, appointments can be made for sportspersons meeting the following criteria:


Represented a State or the country in National or International competitions.

Won medals in Junior National Championships, Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India Winter Games, Khelo India Para Games, Khelo India University Games, or School Games Federation of India (SGFI) events.

Achieved the Grand Master (GM) or International Master (IM) title in Chess, participated in Chess Olympiad, or won medals in National Team Chess Championships.

Authority to Award Certificates:

Certificates of eligibility for recruitment of sportspersons can be awarded by various authorities depending on the level of competition. These include the Secretary of the National Federation, Secretary of the State Association, Dean of Sports of Universities, and designated officers from the Sports Authority of India.


Order of Preference:

Preference for recruitment will be given based on the following order:


Representing the country in International competitions with clearance from the Department of Sports.

Participation and medal wins in Senior or Junior level National Championships.

Participation and medal wins in Inter-University competitions or Khelo India University Games.

Participation and medal wins in Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India Winter Games, or Khelo India Para Games.

Representation at the State Schools level.

Events of National Importance:

National Championships conducted by recognized National Sports Federations, National Games organized by the Indian Olympic Association, and various Khelo India events are recognized as events of national importance.
