In a recent communication dated 9th February 2024, the Ministry of Communications, Department of Posts, underscored the importance of promoting DOP Internet Banking to broaden its reach and maximize its utility among customers. The communication, addressed to all Heads of Circles (HOCs), highlights the significant gap between the number of registered DOP Internet Banking users and the total Savings Account customer base.

As per the communication, there are currently only 8.6 lakh registered DOP Internet Banking users out of a massive Savings Account customer base of 7.3 crore, translating to a mere 1.18%. This statistic underscores the need for substantial improvement in promoting and encouraging the adoption of DOP Internet Banking services among customers.

The communication emphasizes that DOP Internet Banking offers a plethora of services tailored to meet customers' diverse banking needs. These include the ability to open and operate other Post Office Savings Schemes, facilitate fund transfers through NEFT/RTGS, and access account balance and statements, all from the convenience of one's home or office.

Moreover, the promotion of DOP Internet Banking is not merely about enhancing customer convenience; it is also viewed as a vital service quality indicator and a catalyst for cross-selling other Post Office Savings Schemes. By encouraging existing and new customers to embrace Internet Banking, the DOP aims to improve overall customer service levels, streamline operations at Post Office counters, and contribute to the achievement of Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) targets.

The communication calls upon Circles to intensify efforts in promoting the Internet Banking facility among existing and prospective customers. It underscores the potential of Internet Banking to not only enhance customer engagement but also drive business growth by attracting new customers and deepening relationships with existing ones.

In essence, the promotion of DOP Internet Banking represents a strategic imperative for the Department of Posts in India. By embracing digital channels and fostering a culture of innovation, the DOP aims to stay ahead of the curve in meeting the evolving needs and expectations of its customers in the digital age.

This communication serves as a clarion call for concerted action across Circles to amplify the adoption of DOP Internet Banking, thereby ushering in a new era of seamless, accessible, and customer-centric banking services in India's postal ecosystem.
