Maharashtra Postal Circle Marks Worldcup Cricket Milestones with Special Covers and Cancellations


In a momentous event today, under the able guidance of Shri. K. K Sharma, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, Shri Amitabh Singh, Postmaster General (Mails and BD)  unveiled a special cover with a unique cancellation to commemorate the first semi-final match between India and New Zealand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The collector's item reflects the fervor of the match and serves as a timeless tribute to the thrilling encounter.


Adding to the celebration of cricketing excellence, another special cancellation was revealed, honoring Mr. Virat Kohli's achievement of  50 centuries in ODIs that too reaching the same in semi final of ICC World Cup 2023 highlights his exceptional skill. This milestone  cements Mr. Kohli's status as a cricketing icon, etching his name in the annals of the sport's history.


Dr. Sudhir Jakhere, Asst. Postmaster General (BD), Maharashtra Circle, Shri Yadagiri Nyalapelli, Asstt Director Postal Services (PSR), Maharashtra Circle, and Shri Sanjay Bhandari, Asstt. Director Postal Services, Mumbai Region, officers and staff of Mumbai GPO were present on the occassion. 


The Special Cover with the special cancellation, capturing the essence of the semi-final clash, will soon be available at all Philately Bureaus across the Circle. However, the Special Cancellation commemorating Mr. Virat Kohli's remarkable feat will be exclusively accessible at the Mumbai Philately Bureau.


This initiative reflects the commitment of the Maharashtra Postal Circle to immortalize significant moments in sports through philately, offering enthusiasts and collectors alike an opportunity to own a piece of history.
