2. In this regard, it is intimated that BOs were never allowed to close any type of account including Savings Account, even before introduction of CBS / RICT as the closure of accounts involves calculation of interest. At present, there is no provision in rules as well as in RICT for closure of any type of account directly by the BPM. If the maturity payment is to be credited in PO or Bank Savings Account, BO depositors need not go to Account Office. They can submit the closure application form at BO itself. Further, RICT devices are likely to be replaced with alternative device and at the time of replacement, the suggestion for providing RD account closure facility in Branch Post Offices may be reviewed.
