Department of Post (DOP) got approval from Finance Ministry for opening of 5746 New Post Offices and 13283 new posts in the country for providing banking facility within five kilometres of all villages.

Subject: Providing banking facility within five kilometres of all villages in the country - creation of new posts - reg.
This is regarding providing banking facility within five kilometres of all villages in the country. In this connection, kind reference is invited to Director General (Postal Services) D.O. letter. no. 40-12/2022-Plg dated 14th July 2022, wherein Circles were requested to furnish information in respect of new BOs proposed to be opened for providing banking facility within five kilometres of all villages in the country along with details of number of new posts required to be created for this purpose. Based on information received from Postal Circles, Ministry of Finance was requested to accord sanction for creatron of new posts of GDS BPM, GDS ABPM, Mail Overseer, Postal Assistant and Inspector Posts required for opening of new BOs.
2. Approval of the competent authority is hereby conveyed for sanction of 5746 new posts of GDS BPM, 7082 new posts of GDS ABPM, 275 new posts of Postal Assistant, 60 new posts of lnspector and 120 new posts of Mail Overseer in connection with opening of 57 46 new BOs required for providing banking facility within five kilometres of all villages in the country. Circle-wrse distribution of newly sanctioned posts is enclosed (Annexure-I).
3. Circles are requested to open new BOs as per the requirement furnished by them in response to Director General (Postal Services) D.O. letter mentioned in para 1 above. Head of Circles are requested to kindly ensure that the new BOs are opened only in those places as indicated by them.
4. The expenditure involved in opening of new BOs shall be met from the Scheme, "Rural Business & Access to Postal Network". Fund allocation would be intimated separately.
5. The proposal has been approved by Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure vide MoF, DoE lD No. 11(1)/Comm.&lT/2023/E.Coord.l Dated 22.03.2023 (300575341).
6. Integrated Finance Wing (IFW) of Postal Directorate has vetted the sanction of newly created posts required for opening of 5746 new BOs vide Dy. No. 194/2022-23 / FA-CS(P) dated 24.03.2023.
