India Post.
Dear Shri Alok Sharma,
Re: Examination for the Posts of Inspectors.
1am informed that above department promotional examination is scheduled by Department of Posts on 15th and 16th January 2022.
In Tamilnadu "Pongal" festival (Festival of Harvest) starts on 14 th Jan followed by "Mattu Pongal" (Celebration of Cattles) and "Kanum Pongal” (Festival of visiting near and dear ones) on subsequent two days on 15th and 16th. This festival is having a history of thousands of years
and become part of Tamil culture. Hence every one celebrates it visiting their native places along with families.
In this background it is difficult for the candidates to make themselves available for exams on 15th and 16th. Many candidates at their native places outside Chennai may have to start their journey on 14 th itself since Chennai is the only centre for the said examination. Due to festival the travel itself would not be easy. It will make them tense and itis not proper to ask candidates to appear for examination with physical and psychological stress. More over the sentiments of Tamil people also have to be taken into consideration.
I understand the present schedule itself is a revised one postponing examinations slated on 18 th and 19 th Dec, 2021 earlier. Care should have been taken in fixing the dates and period of Pongal festival could have been avoided. .
I would request you to postpone the said examination to some other suitable dates respecting the sentiments of Tamil people as well as taking in to account difficulties involved for the candidates.
Thanking You
